School Facts

The Social Science Program consists of 29 courses (28 for those students who choose to take three math courses) taken over a two-year period. Each year is divided into 2 semesters and each semester is approximately 15 weeks in duration. In order to receive the College Diploma (Diplome d'Etudes collegiales) all students must complete:

29 courses (28 with three math courses)Ministerial English Exit ExamComprehensive AssessmentAll students must take 14 General Education courses and 15 Social Science program-specific courses (14 for those who take 3 math courses).

14 General Education Courses

  • 4 English
  • 3 Humanities
  • 2 French
  • 3 Physical Education
  • 2 Complementary courses

15 Social Science Program Courses:

3 Required Methodology Courses

  • Research Methods 100 level
  • Quantitative Methods 200 level
  • Integrative Project 300 level

 

3 Required Introductory Social Science Courses (100 level)

  • Economics: Macroeconomics
  • History: History of Western Civilization
  • Psychology: Introduction to Psychology

 

3 Additional Introductory Social Science Courses chosen from these disciplines (100 level)

  • Business Studies
  • Geography
  • Mathematics
  • Political Science
  • Sociology

6 Advanced Level courses (200 and/or 300 levels):

Advanced level courses can only be taken following successful completion of an introductory course (100 level) in the same discipline.

Commerce Option

The Social Science-Commerce option consists of 28 courses (14 General Education and 14 Social Science). The requirements are the same as the regular Social Science program except students substitute 3 math courses for 4 courses in other disciplines. The mathematics courses required are Calculus I, Calculus II and Linear Algebra. In addition, students should complete Microeconomics 383-201 as part of their advanced course requirements.
